1)complete the personal info about the account holder in the upper left corner
2)Date your cheque. ( if a cheque is older than 6 months the bank will not cash it. this is called a stale cheque. )
3)fill in the name of the person or company that you are paying. this goes on the line pay to the order of.
4)fill in the amount of the cheque in numbers.
5)fill in the amount in words for the dollar amount.
6)leave the cents in number form out of 100
7)put a line before and after the dollar amount.
8)sign the cheque.
***if you make a mistake when writing a cheque, cross it out and correct the error. then initial the cheque***
